WHAT IS MY LIFE PURPOSE?
Many people come to me asking “What’s my life purpose?”
Often people get confused and think their life purpose is about their job, about what they do. It may be, but actually there is something much more fundamental behind it.
The most important life purpose all of us have is to live each moment of our life to the full - even through the sad and difficult times - and to do so for as long as possible.
If we live life to the full we will become more connected with our soul, and this is what we are here for. This is our journey, our life. This is our life purpose, it makes us what we are – what we are meant to be.
We are given many tasks along the way: some are designed to give us belief in ourselves, some to help others.
I meet many people who think that unless their life is extraordinary, they have not achieved their life purpose. This is far from the truth. Most people are called to live what some would call an “ordinary life”, rearing a loving family, doing a routine job well, helping their neighbour, being there for friends and family. Most people’s life purpose is to live this so-called “ordinary” life well and to the full. There is no such thing as an insignificant life and every life is unique.
My experience of this wisdom in action:
A man and his wife came to see me one day. He described how he and his wife had reared four children, all of whom were now educated and doing well in life. He and his wife had bought a cottage in the country and one son was about to marry. The man was very happy and felt that life couldn’t be better, he looked forward to having grandchildren. His wife said little.
Several days later his wife came to see me on her own. She told me a completely different story. She was deeply disappointed in her life, and very sad, because she felt she hadn’t achieved anything. She compared herself to her own brothers and sisters, feeling they had achieved much more than she had.
She sat across the table from me crying, “Lorna,” she said, “I think my life has no purpose, I’m a failure, I haven’t achieved anything.”
I handed her a box of tissues and as I did so, Angels appeared around her. One Angel spoke to me and gave me a vision of this lovely woman’s life from the beginning as the Angel told me the story of her life.
I repeated what the Angel was telling me, without saying who it was about. When I stopped talking she looked at me with an expression of awe and said, “Who are you talking about?”
I told her it was her life and it was as if, all of a sudden, her eyes and her mind were opened. It was only then she realized that her life was in fact full of purpose, that her life purpose was to be a good mother and wife, and to be generous and caring to those around her.
She got up, gave me a hug and said “Thank God and the Angels.” She told me that she was going home now to tell her husband how much she loved him and their children, and how much she was looking forward to their son’s wedding and grandchildren
It was as if she had got lost. She was living her life purpose, but she was so busy looking elsewhere for it that she couldn’t see it until the Angels helped me to show it to her.
